This Morning It Rained
Disclaimer: The title has nothing to with any of the content of this post, but it is true. There was a quick shower this morning on my way to coffee with my sister, and it made my latte all the more delicious. Ah, I love Fall.
An anonymous reader said something interesting the other day; "Do you ever shop anywhere besides Forever 21 and Urban Outfitters?" After a moment of mild offense, the fog lifted, the clouds parted, and I began to appreciate the perceptiveness of this reader; in fact, I wondered for quite some time if anyone would bring up the excessive amount of items labeled with those two stores. Anyway, while their statement is an exaggeration (I also shop religiously at H&M, Etsy, eBay, Goodwill, Value Village and a lovely little consignment store in Tacoma), the inaccuracies are mild. Basically, it's the truth.
I began to evaluate my reasons for buying all of my bigger pieces (as opposed to accessories, which I primarily look for elsewhere) at Forever 21 and Urban Outfitters. The answer: they're cheap, I'm cheap, it works well. Then I thought, "Well, that's stupid!" Because I buy all of this cheap clothing, I cycle through it extremely quickly; I am always dissatisfied with what I've got to wear in the morning, I complain about it, I go shopping again. It has become clear that I should invest in fewer, more expensive things, and my life will be easier. While I'll always be a bargain shopper (thanks, Mom!), I think having a balanced wardrobe comprised of steals and investment pieces will work out better for me in the end.
Also, thinking less about shopping will be nice. Perhaps, instead, I will read (my list of to-read novels grows longer by the hour, and now includes Freedom by Jonathan Franzen, The Road by Cormac McCarthy, and The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde). To the library!
Cheers,
-C

Gorgeous apartment! It must be in Paris...no wait, well somebody was in Paris...
Quality products & bargain shopping CAN be done hand in hand... I love waiting until something a bit pricier but higher quality has a sale and snatching it up then. Add in that wait time, and I know that I really want it by the time the sale rolls around...
It's really hard to break ourselves out of the fast/cheap fashion cycle though.
beautiful styling, babe!
